Installation Notes for Ford F-150 Lightning

IMPORTANT: The F-150 Lightning has a 19.2 kW onboard charger — to reach full speed, you need an 80A circuit (100A breaker, 4 AWG wire minimum). Most home chargers cap at 48A (11.5 kW). To hit 19.2 kW, you need a dedicated 80A EVSE (these are less common for residential installs).
- →
For most F-150 owners, a 50A circuit with a 48A charger (ChargePoint, JuiceBox) is practical — you get 30+ miles/hr and a full Extended Range charge in 10–11 hours overnight.
- →
For owners who want the full 19.2 kW: we can run an 80A circuit. This requires 4 AWG wire and a 100A breaker, and typically a 200A panel. Cost adds $200–$600 vs. a standard 50A install.
- →
The 2024 F-150 Lightning uses NACS. Use Ford's provided NACS-to-J1772 adapter for J1772 chargers, or Ford's available home NACS cable solution.
- →
F-150 Lightning also has a 9.6 kW Pro Power Onboard feature — we sometimes install a dedicated circuit for that outlet as well. Ask about combo installs.

Permits required in all Bay Area cities. ChargeWizards handles permitting end-to-end.
