Installation Notes for Nissan Nissan Leaf

  • The Nissan Leaf's 6.6 kW onboard charger only draws about 28A — a 30A circuit is sufficient. We don't need a 50A circuit here.

  • A 30A circuit uses 10 AWG wire and a 30A breaker — this is one of the more affordable EV charger installs we do.

  • 40 kWh Leaf charges fully in about 8 hours on 6.6 kW. Most Leaf owners drive under 60 miles daily — they're topping up 2–3 hours per night.

  • The Leaf uses J1772 for Level 2 and CHAdeMO for DC fast charging. J1772 home chargers work natively with no adapter.

  • Nissan Leaf Plus (62 kWh) has the same 6.6 kW charger — same install applies. Full charge takes about 12 hours but typical daily use is covered overnight.

  • For Leaf owners in apartments or condos, we recommend talking to your HOA about EV charging rights. ChargeWizards can advise on the process.
